African Hips Don't Lie

…. and this I promise you.

I’ve always been the writer in this relationship but Noid is giving me a serious run for the title…. let me explain:

Our decision to elope was not a long draw out secret… it happened quickly. Noid proposed AGAIN…. literally arranged a wedding in a day,  nakkid in bed, cell phone in hand. It did take us a little longer to choose wedding bands!

There was never a question as to WHERE we would marry. We had a dream, years old already. At the Champagne Sports Resort there is a tiny Chapel which overlooks the mountains. The view is spectacular. Noid organized the Chapel for our use, along with a Minister to take care of the legal requirements which took place inside the Chapel. Btw, we wanted to get married on a public holiday, hence the need for a proper Minister and not a Home Affairs which would have been much cheaper….. office which may confuse those who don’t know me that well and my lack of religious excitement.

There was no walking down the aisle, there was no giving away of the girl who is ALWAYS the bride, whom has never been a bridesmaid. It was very relaxed and joyful.

Noid forgot to say “I do” at the right part, there was a giggle and he said to please redo it as many times as necessary to make sure I am his wife! I said my “I do“‘s as I am proper.

We did exchang rings in the Chapel and the kiss the bride part was most proper!!!!

“With this ring,
I give you my promise
that from this day forward,
you shall not walk alone.
May my heart be your shelter
And my arms be your home.”

After a short ceremony we ate cupcakes, had Appletizer as even I won’t do champagne in a Chapel, blew bubbles into the air and smiled.

A short time later we made our way to Dragons Peak where we had flown up the mountain to The Little Berg in August 2008. We wanted to exchange our vows in private, overlooking the mountains Noid had always loved and which I have grown to appreciate as a place of peace, shelter and love.

Noid decided we should write our own vows…I had a non-negotiable… there will be no ’till death to us part’…. He wrote so beautifully and we both cried as he read his words to me:

I asked his permission to share this with you.

I wish you enough,

Wenchy

Christel, we have walked a path together that has contained many highs and a few lows. It has been a time of immense happiness and a time of sadness when life threw us things we both did not know how to handle or deal with. We have both caused each other, along with our loved ones, pain and hurt through these times. This I will deeply regret and I will strive for it to be a constant reminder to me to right the wrongs of the past.

I also see these times as a starting point to a wonderful future together.

You have been my dream for a long time and I value the growth you have brought to my life and it was only though hope and belief in us that we are becoming the “Us” we both dreamed about. It is through the power of love and the learning we have taken from “Our Power” that we have reached this stage and through the commitment and dedication of both of us to strive daily to believe in the “Power of Love” that we are able to do this.

I am extremely thankful that through these times we have both learned and developed together to a point when I can with extreme happiness and optimism make the following vows to you. I see the wonderfulness that is you with new eyes and it is exciting and beautiful to feel the feelings I have inside me about the times ahead together.

I am extremely proud of both of us to have seen and recognised the mistakes we had made and how we both needed to change to build a future together. Although there was pain and hurt involved with us coming to this realization, it needs to be seen in the light of what we have become through this change and the learning we both have made through the difficult times we experienced. I am proud of you to have recognised what needed to be done and making the changes and I am proud of myself for also making the changes needed for us to be happy.

“Let’s think of the future
Forget the past
You’re not my first love
But you’re my last”

“Christel my Sweet, I promise to be faithful, supportive, and loyal and to give you my companionship and love throughout all the changes of our life. I vow to bring you happiness, and I will treasure you as my companion. I will celebrate the joys of life with you. I promise to support your dreams, and walk beside you offering courage and strength through all endeavors. I promise to be there when you need me, to fill your days with sunshine, to comfort you and encourage you, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you while we take this wonderful journey of discovery and happiness and love together.

From this day forward, I will be proud to be your husband and your best friend.”

“I, Christel my Babylove, take you, to be no other than yourself. Loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not yet know, I will respect your integrity and have faith in your abiding love for me, through all our years, and in all that life may bring us.”

“My Dearest Babes, I take you as my wife, with your faults and your strengths, as I offer myself to you with my faults and my strengths. I will help you when you need help, and turn to you when I need help. I choose you as the person with whom I will spend my life.”

A journey has a destination but that destination for me will change each day with you as it is in the journey that we are embarking together that I find the happiness and the joy that a life with you will bring and I commit to keep working on the things I need to improve to make that journey one of deep satisfaction.

I will cherish our times together and I will live for the dream that is “us”, putting you above all else in our future together.

I do all this because I believe in the dream of what we have become already and the dream of what we will become.

Above all else, believe in the love I have for you, which is both deep and from centre of my being!
