African Hips Don't Lie

Day 13 → A band or artist that has gotten you through some tough ass days. (write a letter.)

Dear Tim McGraw,

I am a fan… Others may find country music depressing but I have always found it to be filled with truth, hope and the harsh reality of life. I found comfort in your music, smiles in tears and laughter in others.

On the night after Noel killed himself, my divorce was pending and I felt pretty darn low… a depth of such despair that I never want to feel or see that hole again in my life. That night, I heard for the first time the song “Bring on the rain you sang with Jo Dee Messina and I played it over and over and over and over again for days…. in my car on my way to work and on my way home from work… until I believed that “tomorrow IS another day and I’m thirsty anyway, so bring on the rain”.

I felt less alone because for somebody to have written the lyrics of so many songs you sing, means they must have felt it too at some point and understood  how I felt.

“The Cowboy In Me”

I don’t know why I act the way I do
Like I ain’t got a single thing to lose
Sometimes I’m my own worst enemy
I guess that’s just the cowboy in me

I got a life that most would love to have
But sometimes I still wake up fightin’ mad
At where this road I’m heading down might lead
I guess that’s just the cowboy in me

The urge to run, the restlessness
The heart of stone I sometimes get
The things I’ve done for foolish pride
The me that’s never satisfied
The face that’s in the mirror when I don’t like what I see
I guess that’s just the cowboy in me

Mr. Mc Graw…. I may need a cowboy hat because I look crap on a horse, but then although I can sing country I’m never gonna be a cowgirl – but thank you for spending many lonely nights with me…. and making me feel that you singing “Just to see her smile – is just for me.

Thank you Tim for “taking me away from here, making it seem I’m a million miles away, another time, another place…”

“I love it, I like it, I want some more of it.”  so let “set this circus down”.

PS. Your music have gotten me through some tough ass days…. thank you.

  2. Oh I love a bit of country music too.

  3. JillyD is SO NOT a fan of country ~ but I’m a fan of Wenchy and I’m glad you’ve found something to help you through your tough ass days. As for me ~ I’m still searching.

  4. I agree with Maggie. What a lovely “tribute” to Tim. Will have to go look for one of his CD’s. Maybe it will help me also get through some tough-ass days!

  5. Music is something we all can connect to on so many levels and while I am not a big fan of country, the lyrics always have a meaning and can be related to.

You may be a cowgirl according to some of the lyrics posted, but at least you are my cowgirl who I love and adore and I will be your cowboy every step of the way.

  6. Love me some country music, and Tim McGraw is one of the best, absolutely…

  7. Love your letter!

I totally love country music. They always tell a story or has some meaning. A lot of other music is just words and does not say a thing. He does sing beautifully and his words mean so much.

  10. *sigh* beautiful I’m going to listen to your songs on YouTube. Love the lyrics of the cowboy one
