The ANC of my youth.

Yes. I am one of those white people. I’ve been called a kaffer-boetie more times in my life than my age. I chanted in the street for freedom from white oppression, segregation and demanding that power be given to our people. All our people. My vote did help put the ANC into power along with millions of others.

However between President Zuma and Julius Malema, this is not the ANC of my youth. This is not what I ran from police for. I do not believe Madiba sat in jail for 27 years to see the colour fade from this rainbow nation of corruption.

These men have belittled my belief in a conviction I have held up as my truth. Colour will never dictate superiority to me – ever. To thy own self be true… I will not be voting for the ANC this time round Comrades. Free and fair.

Viva!! the spirit of Nelson Mandela who I do not believe would have cast his vote for this rendition of the African National Congress. I do believe he would have been disappointed in the watered down version of power to our people. Mostly disappointed in our leadership and what they stand for.

I know I am.

We miss our leader Tata.

Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika  – God bless Africa.

Forever Pomesteen Power®

Hello my friends and other interesting questions,

I joined Forever Living in November 2012 as I found their Aloe Vera Gel assisted me greatly with pain relief with my Fibromyalgia (Fibromyalgia is a condition a person has long-term. Body-wide pain, tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, depression, and anxiety.).

As I have tried more of their products I have just become more and more impressed! I recently added Forever Pomesteen Power® to my morning shot of Aloe Vera Gel and it is delicious!

(The Aloe Vera Gel tastes like hell on steroids but it does great things, you however soon get use to the taste).

Forever Pomesteen Power®

There’s no disputing the fact that antioxidants are extremely vital to our health and well-being. There is, however, much discussion today among nutritionists as to  which fruit is the most powerful antioxidant, or which contains the most Xanthones or has the highest ORAC value rating.

Forever Pomesteen Power has them all with a proprietary blend of fruit juices and extracts, including Pomegranate, Pear, Mangosteen, Raspberry, Blackberry, Blueberry and Grape Seed. ORAC value (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is an indicator of how well an antioxidant inhibits free radical damage. The ORAC value of fruits can  vary greatly, even when testing the same fruit at different times after harvesting.

What is important to know is that all of the ingredients of Forever Pomesteen Power are near the top of the list in ORAC value, especially Pomegranate and Mangosteen fruit. Pomegranate juice has more polyphenol antioxidants than red wine, green tea, cranberry juice and orange juice. In addition, it is a good source of  Vitamins A, C, E and the mineral Iron.

Mangosteen is a popular fruit in Asia. Its exquisite taste prompted Queen Victoria to declare it her favorite fruit, henceforth it has been referred to as the “Queen of Fruits!” Its ORAC value is very high, and it is rich in  beneficial Xanthones.

Xanthones are a family of naturally occurring nutritional compounds in fruits that are super powerful antioxidants. Experience the incredible power of antioxidants  from Pomegranate, Mangosteen, and other exotic fruits with Forever Pomesteen Power!

All the ingredients of Forever Pomesteen Power are near the top of the list in ORAC value.

febrewery: A month of craft beer and food pairings

Hello my dear friends and other interesting creatures,

Imagine that! An entire month dedicated to South African craft beer and food pairing is being launched this febrewery in Johannesburg.  It is kinda like Movember, except the men look better?  Personally I LOVE the name. 🙂

No one can argue that the craft beer explosion has been nothing short of revolutionary,” says febrewery founder, Chris de Beer. “As an ardent beer drinker and supporter of local businesses, the time seemed right to show discerning restaurant-goers and avid craft beer enthusiasts that their two passions can mix. That is febrewery!”

For a long time, wine has always been the category of choice to pair with food. febrewery will offer patrons a taste experience that goes beyond just ordering a beer with a meal.”

As drinking and driving is simply not sexy, SnappCab has been appointed as the official transport partner. The service is available to you to sign up via the web (Apple App Store, Google Play and Blackberry World) and I would encourage you to sign up before the beer starts pairing you without car keys.

febrewery runs from February 1st – February 28th 2014 at these participating restaurants:

Beefcakes Burger Bar:  +27 11 447 5266

Rabbit in the Moon:      +27 11 447 6720

Rocket (Parkhurst):      +27 11 880 6102

Rocket (Rivonia):         +27 11 234 8807

Each restaurant has selected three main dishes that our resident ‘go-to-craft-beer-guru’ Jason Cederwall from Craft Liquor Merchants has paired with an authentic local craft beer. We’ve tried to mix it up so restaurant patrons will be able to enjoy their favourite local brew or restaurant dish, but also have the opportunity to experience new and exciting combinations throughout the campaign.”

You can follow febrewery online at: @febrewery on twitter, and/or like their page.

I shall report back on my beer pairing experience and perhaps I shall take a Snapp Cab just for fun.

Btw, if you are a beer geek like me, you may want read up so you can talk with the big boys… Never say I didn’t try and be proper, so read HERE.

I wish you enough,

#ElvisShow is in the @joburgtheatre building!

Hello my friends and other interesting creatures –

I was indeed blessed to be invited to see #ElvisShow at Joburg Theatre last night. The event included celebrities such as Steve Hofmeyr and his fiancé Janine as well as Kurt Darren wife Dunay amongst others. An amazing atmosphere!

I had such a good time! All shook up – reliving songs that I love, singing, laughing and remembering my teenage years where Elvis was all over my walls. 🙂

I suggest you make use of the specials on offer and just relax….. SING and enjoy!

I wish you enough,

“You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me” – Burlesque

Hello friends and other interesting creatures…

My daughter, Victoria introduced me to the movie Burlesque….until one day we found ourselves belting the notes out in the car….

I think it must be a pain in the ass to be Wenchy’s daughter… never the wallflower… I wish I can say I am sorry baby, shut up and sit in the corner, but then does baby ever sit in the corner?

“You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me” = Cher – Check it out on YouTube here.

Feeling broken
Barely holding on
But there’s just something so strong
Somewhere inside me
And I am down but I’ll get up again
Don’t count me out just yet

I’ve been brought down to my knees
And I’ve been pushed way past the point of breaking
But I can take it
I’ll be back
Back on my feet
This is far from over
You haven’t seen the last of me
You haven’t seen the last of me

They can say that
I won’t stay around
But I’m gonna stand my ground
You’re not gonna stop me
You don’t know me
You don’t know who I am
Don’t count me out so fast

I’ve been brought down to my knees
And I’ve been pushed way past the point of breaking
But I can take it
I’ll be back
Back on my feet
This is far from over
You haven’t seen the last of me

There will be no fade out
This is not the end
I’m down now
But I’ll be standing tall again
Times are hard but
I was built tough
I’m gonna show you all what I’m made of

I’ve been brought down to my knees
And I’ve been pushed way past the point of breaking
But I can take it
I’ll be back
Back on my feet
This is far from over
I am far from over
You haven’t seen the last of me

No no
I’m not going nowhere
I’m staying right here
Oh no
You won’t see me begging
I’m not taking my bow
Can’t stop me
It’s not the end
You haven’t seen the last of me
Oh no
You haven’t seen the last of me
You haven’t seen the last of me

Dear friends and other interesting creatures,

I ran into @FerdiWG and his gorgeous wife @DianiGernandt at @joburgtheatre and asked what they are working on. Two of the most sincere, truly abundantly talented, down to earth people I have ever met. We spoke a bit and I asked @FerdiWG to forward me some details.

I have many teenagers in my life so, promoting a teen move – WHOOP! – I was very interested, but also protective of what the content will be… however knowing the persons behind the movie, I felt complete ease to give this movie my full support. Amazing what character can do for a couple. 🙂  @FerdiWG & @DianiGernandt – who you are speak louder than words.

I am sharing all the info available I have at present. I would love for you to share, follow, like, shout from the mountain tops – ENJOY! Help promote South African talented – PROUDLY!

Four random teenagers are pulled together by fate when they discover the two things they have in common: Superpowers! …..and one sinister neighbourhood mom. #SCARS is a teen adventure film in the vein of “I am number four” meets “The Breakfast Club” directed by the talented Ferdinand Gernandt.

Vanessa, a manipulative and sickly science-hungry woman discovers a cure in the DNA of Shane,  a young attractive but rebellious teenager and his easily seduced father, Cameron. Her desire to heal her physical condition spawns a secret science procedure that leaves any victim with a mysterious super ability.

Chloe, a soft risk-averse 15 year old girl learns that she can immobilize any form of aggression and at the same time present an answer to her victim’s deepest question. After a demoralizing experience at the school dance, Sepo, a fat, insignificant 14-year-old Zulu boy notices he has been cursed with invisibility. The hard-ass Ariana is almost raped when she is rescued by her ability to read material history. She escapes by using her attacker’s own knife against him.

Shane did not fall prey under the experimental claws of Vanessa. He was born with the ability to hear other people’s thoughts and the only thing that can free him from the noises in his head is playing on his guitar.

The supernatural plot unfolds in an array of events; Cameron is kidnapped, Chloe sets out to rescue, Fritz, her prince charming, Sepo embraces his new talent and uses his invisibility to overcome rivalry, Ariana is swept into Vanessa’s evil conspiracy, Shane learns to accept the voices in his head as they lead him to his father.

Will these four teenagers use their powers for bad or will they pull together and muster their gifts for the good in order to save their town and cease Vanessa’s unorthodox and sinister science program.

I made some unbelievable friends this year – OUSTANDING INDIVIDIUALS, but there is one young man whose dedication, pure love and conviction for his craft truly just spoke to my heart, @LouwBreytenbach from @LALTH_JHB. I am so proud of you my dear friend. You are a great friend, an amazing performer, an outstanding teacher and well…… I will love you for a thousand years. #friendsforlife1-IMG-20131116-05308[1]

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.

You never know how drastically your day can change from sunshine to sunset.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?

“Clown” (Actually read the words, line for line)

I guess it’s funnier from where you’re standing
Cause from over here I missed the joke
Clear the way for my crash landing
I’ve done it again
Another number for your notes

I’d be smiling if I wasn’t so desperate
I’d be patient if I had the time
I could stop and answer all of your questions
As soon as I find out
How I can move from the back of the line

I’ll be your clown
Behind the glass
Go ‘head and laugh
Cause it’s funny
I would too if I saw me
I’ll be your clown
On your favourite channel
My life’s a circus circus
Round in circles
I’m selling out tonight

I’d be less angry if it was my decision
And the money was just rolling in
If I had more than my ambition
I’ll have time for ‘Please’
I’ll have time for ‘Thank you’
As soon as I win

From a distance my choice is simple
From a distance I can entertain
So you can see me
I put make-up on my face
But there’s no way you can feel it
From so far away

I wish you enough,
