Every girl & drag queen … MUST have Glamore!… Oh also lashes & purple hair.

Dear friends and other interesting creatures,

I’m not a fashion blogger. We all sigh with relief if all my colours remotely go together… like most fat people, I dress comfortably which means the garment actually fit over my African hips. According to the medical calculations I have a 100% perfect waist/hip ratio. For a fat person, I find that hysterical. Thankfully my doctor knows me well and don’t mind loud laughter, or loud tears on occasion. Bless him.  🙂 Perhaps the fabulous Alan and Krishen wants to do a make over with the Wench 10kg from now? Although they have never treated me anything but fabulous when I see them. Such gentleman!

I am however a blogger that hugely enjoys beauty products and spa treatments.  From the basics of skin, hair and nail maintenance to make up glamour and hot stone massage, pedicures…oh the list is so long!

On the makeup scene, in the past, I loved bronzing products until I realised the skin pigmentation pregnancy left me with, is screaming “victim here!” … so I’ve stopped that look. It was a matter of scaring little children.

The Diva in me may be a closet drag queen adore my Glamour Lashes, purple makeup tones and glitter. I have not mastered the smokey eye (my sister, Rentia is a gift with this kinda thing), but I am known for a love of long lasting lipstick that does not dry your lips.

During the past few weeks,  I experimented with a number of products from Glamore Cosmetics whom I encountered on Twitter. A testiment that the online world can connect us with fantastic people,  companies and products.

Glamore Cosmetics

Besides that I genuinely love the brand (I would honestly tell you if I did not), the personal service, recommendations and extensive knowledge of Gael from Glamore Cosmetics have been impressive. You can tick the box in the customer service department!

Firstly,  I tried another shade in the range of nail polish which I reviewed last month, (Jungle Pop 280) which I am very pleased with. It is still a purple,  but has specs of glitter hidden in it. Thembi, (the gorgeous nail technician who has faithfully done my nails for 7 years now) is very pleased with the brand.  For me it is all about the colour, and that it lasts…. but Thembi looks at brushes,  ease of application and consistency. Reasons why people are professionals in their field. We are both impressed.

To help distract attention from my pigmentation pregnancy cheeks, the Pearly Powder Balls are very effective. It comprises of balls with different light shades to apply, lighting the look of the pigmentation on my cheeks. My only negative is that it does not include a brush, but thankfully I sorted that issue out fast.

I tried the Hean Vitamin Cocktail Lipstick and while it has a wonderful, intensive care and nourishment feeling, it was not long lasting enough for me. I require a lipstick with some staying powder as I’m forever hugging and kissing people. Even if it is the french – cheek, other cheek kisses. If you are a normal, non constant kissing you will love this products. Great variety of colours also. My friend Fiona tried it, loved the colour and I admit it went beautifully with her complexion!

The AA 40+ Mezzo Laser Wrinkling Decreasing Night Cream is light, nourishing and especially for those who have allergies and skin sensitively. It was very smooth, rich is luxury … but I am a bit little bit OCD, so for me, I would need the range – cleaners, toner etc to make a call. Yes, there are products for younger people. We can’t all be 40+ and flashing!

I would recommend that the Glamore Cosmetics team sell a brush set of sorts, that would be helpful.

Glamore Cosmetics

The eye shadow I cannot write much about besides that I loved the colours, easy to apply (again no applicator) because I had fallen deeply in love with its distant cousin, the eye shadow base for which I had received a sample. It is amazing! For long lasting eye shadow, every girl and drag queen MUST have some eye shadow base. It is the kind of product I need to keep extra just in case I run out. Absolute winner! Buy it. You will not regret it!!!

purple-star purple-star purple-star purple-star  purple-star rating from me.

For the month of October, I’ve decided to showcase my #purplehairdontcare from Ultimate Hair,  as well as the dramatic lashes Bailey from Glam Lashes keeps looking very Cabaret! .. I will be embracing a nude / natural look which requires quite a few products to pull off, especially at 42 years of age. I am going for that *giggle*Oh! I always look like this when I wake up!” look. Will let you know how well that works out…. Glamore Cosmetics here I come!

If I look pale or ill, I obviously messed it up so please remind me to put on lipstick and to take my Zanax.

PS. Yes, the pictures were all taken by me, so please do not take them from me.

If I should fall behind, wait for me.

Happy Anniversary to my darling husband! The man with the thighs.

@SirNoid made from huge patience, a quick temper to match my own, tremendous dedication, huge love and passion for the girl who has her head in the clouds and her feet on a yellow brick road… sprinkled with purple fairy dust. Not always practical, never conventional and needs the challenge only testosterone provides.

I appreciate all you do for us (today I am only writing about you and I… no kids), everything you give me from your heart, the haka on a beach, to helicopter flips over Victoria Falls, ice cream in winter, and flying me up the Drakensberg as you had wanted to exchange vows there…. where we can see forever… to the daily purple glitter that completes our life together.

Thank you for believing in my dreams and doing everything you can to make them possible. I know I test your will to live some days but that is kinda what comes with loving Wenchy. 🙂 Sounds dramatic cause I’m a Diva dammit! At least life with me is never boring or predictable at. Challenging at worst.

I love your quirky self that drives me bonkers at times as you pause the TV when I’m busy watching and you fell asleep…. or have to attack on #ClashOfClans midst serious discussion…. but having to look at every rock, hill or cloud formation during road l trips may be the iceberg! Ha!

I love your shoulder dance and your 3am we up calls. I love how you tell me everything on your heart as you get ready for work. I love that you eat my very mmm….. interesting concoctions and try really hard to sleep with the fan on.

You are very funny with jokes that I think you can’t wait for an opportunity to tell. You are considerate in bringing me a purple blanket when I’m cold or make coffee when the kettle is empty. You always bring me something when you travel and you try to understand my low days while the relief on my up days is celebrated.

You work 14 hour days / nights to make sure we are okay. I appreciate the excess you put into your branch with loyalty and purpose. I do not think your company, nor those who report to you, know how much extra you do for them. When I do my rounds as the bosses wife, I am incredibly proud of you. We have come so far.

Nobody but you and I know how much we have endured and overcome. I credit you as the one never to give up. Especially not on our relationship.

Besides this you are obviously a total pain in the neck, literally. 🙂

When I’m sore and you can do nothing to fix it, the desperate look on your face speaks volumes…you ask why the medicine doesn’t work when you work so hard to provide it…and neither of us has an answer. It is perhaps then, when your true vulnerability shows which you attempt to hide so well.

I may not be your first love, but I suspect you kept the best for last.

Loves you Coach…. and thank you. Happy Anniversary!
Wenchy

PS. I remind you of this part of our ceremony:

“With this ring, I give you my promise
that from this day forward
you shall not walk alone.
I have no greater gift to give.
May my heart be your shelter
and my arms be your home.”

Dis ek, Anna

Dear friends and other interesting creatures,

It has never happened to me that I see a movie, the audience randomly burst into applause,  remain seated while the credits roll in silence and the audience keep applauding … and nobody rushes to their feet. Especially not an Afrikaans movie.

I had read “Dis ek, Anna” and “Die staat teen Anna Bruwer” in my native language Afrikaans and was deeply touched by it.  When I received an invitation to the film viewing, I had to see it.

My son Liam James (19) accompanied me.  He was worried he wouldn’t follow an Afrikaans film as it is not his first language. There were subtitles in English, but to be honest, it is not imperative to the comprehension of the film.

The time has passed where local film cannot compete in the box office. If I wasn’t convinced after “Balade Vir ‘n Enkeling”,  I have zero doubt now!

Charlenè Brouwer who plays the role of the older Anna, is flawless. Morne Visser definitely also deserves a massive mention.

This is a film that gets full colours,  5 big purple stars from me!

From Wikipedia :

“Dis ek, Anna” is a South African (Afrikaans) drama based on the two top selling novels by Anchien Troskie (writing as Elbie Lotter) called Dis ek, Anna (It’s me, Anna) and Die Staat teen Anna Bruwer (The State vs Anna Bruwer). Set in modern day South Africa, it tells the story of Anna Bruwer who avenge the years of abuse suffered by the hand of her step father and the court case that ensues. Written by Tertius Kapp. Produced by Niel van Deventer. Directed by Sara Blecher and starring amongst others Charlene Brouwer, Marius Weyers, Nicola Hanekom, Morne Visser, Drikus Volschenk, Elize Cawood and Eduan van Jaarsveld.

For the next week it is showing exclusively at @nouveaubuzz in @RosebankMall, before it will be released nation wide. Go see it.

I wish you enough,

In conversation with Kyla Jean

Dear friends and other interesting creatures,

The second in my series of interviews with my kids.

I always knew I would have many children. You know, I collect stuff. 🙂 Yes, it is meant as light hearted as it sounds.

It never occurred to my younger self that I did not have to conceive, nor give birth, to love without condition and support without being asked. Some connections just are… and I seriously have enough stretch marks already.
image
I see my heart stumble and fall, finding it’s own place in the world. I worry, I guide, I do not want to interfere…. I smile when Ky is happy and I cry when sadness crosses her path. The living water flows between us.

Kyla Jean is 22 years old and to be honest, age is irrelevant to the soul she carries. Ky is exceptionally strong in her spirit. Stubborn. Moody. Principled. You will not break her, and if you did try, @SirNoid and I will be forced to step in and break you.

She is loving, generous, kind and loyal. Streetwise and naive at the same time. She sends @SirNoid and I long voice notes, pictures and random thoughts. I know I’m alive in her.

Our Kyla has great compassion for people and animals and is one of the most passionate Liverpool FC supporters I know. She introduced me to the colour grey which is not beige at all, I assure you.

I don’t think people realise how spiritual our Kyla truly is. Her religion is kindness and what she can do that is good in the world. A world that has not been a very kind host to her.

She gives of her time, she is smart, funny and much like Liam James, she says she won’t, but she always gives people another chance.

She is my Princess, who woke on a bed with many layers and a hidden ‘pea’. Together we will destroy every ‘pea’, until there is only Egyptian cotton left.

Blood may genetically link people, but a love you choose for yourself, is forever.

Mommy loves you Ky.

From the footlights: Exclusive Media Ticket & CD Giveaway!!

Dear friends and other interesting creatures,

I am startled when I look at my journey since I left the corporate world officially at the beginning of 2013. Almost every aspect of my life has changed! Not necessarily because I wanted it to, but sometimes life just spins the wheel and we move. I am filled with wonder, gratitude and an illegal amount of absolute joy as that wheel is not always kind.

We are all very thankful that at I am still married to @SirNoid. The man may not always understand my reasons, but he gets my rhymes. (Special congrats to those who picked up on the John Denver antidote.) Also, I have not adopted any more cats or children! You can all relax.

To be fair, landing in the world of social media you may add disillusionment, questioning your faith upon seeing a non Chinese cat eat a very normal looking dog… a sort of belly of the underworld of the human race… alas, least we forget how much pain and pleasure it takes to finally send out the clowns, hey Wabbit?

I honestly miss my corporate salary LOTS, HUGE, an occasional bonus, paid leave … parking on the purple level next to Jamie, my dear friends (especially Mercia), my McDreamy boss whose office I would decorate in glitter on his birthday or any other celebration I could come up with…. Die Grafsteen Sangers (my nickname for Actuarial staff – silent like the grave of nuns who had taken a vow of silence… except me!)… but mostly I miss a steady, reasonable income. #LeSigh The show must go on!

You feel the tension as the curtain lifts, hear the artist hit the note, feel the audience sway, captivated as the story unfolds. Every pause, engaged. Every note, deliberate. It’s a dance I cannot sit and only tap my foot. I have to dance!

I have been blessed with exceptional opportunities, met exquisite personalities and FINALLY there is an environment where there could never be too much glitter! Yay!

I’ve surrounded myself with creatures with excess in mind. Oh happy day! Okay, except for blue eye shadow. One must not be ridiculous as one easily looks like a second round in a bar fight with too much blue eye shadow! Stadig oor die klippe met die blue eye shadow.

Blessed in rainbows of purple glitter, I was invited to the release of Jonathan Roxmouth’s latest CD “From The Footlights”. It was a very classy affair I must tell you. Jonathan was just at the end of performing the show “Stage By Stage” in Johannesburg, which I thoroughly enjoyed, when a very special weekend run of “From The Footlights” was announced.

I admit, my head and heart was in conflict…. Hilton Festival or an opportunity to experience an 18-piece Broadway big band, under the baton of award-winning conductor and arranger, Bryan Schimmel, with Jonathan Roxmouth and friends singing Broadway …. (All of which l have now mastered brilliantly inferior in my car, to my daughter Victoria’s annoyance.)

Imagine the always dashing, winner of many awards and yes, always the lead in every musical, the talented Mr. Roxmouth on the Montecasino Teatro stage… joined by the talented Afrikaans recording artist, Nádine (who btw is even prettier in real life and thinner… the world is not fair children… ); actress, singer and musician, Lindiwe Bungane; TV, stage and movie actress with a splash of comedy, Tracey Lee Oliver; and actor, singer and recording artist (a teddy bear after my own heart), Harry Sideropoulos. It is an unbelievable amount of talent on one stage. Did I mention an 18-piece Broadway big band?

But what is a production, especially as sophisticated as this, without direction? From my heart, with best wishes and tremendous respect: “From The Footlights” is director by my friend, Weslee Lauder! I adore him on so many levels. Sincerity being at the top of my list.

Jonathan & Wenchy

This profuction awakens and touches so many parts of me, that I am very happy to be able to share the love.

I’m absolutely thrilled to be giving away two tickets to the exclusive media preview of “From the Footlights” this Thursday evening 17 September 2015 at Montecasino at 8pm. To top it all off, a signed copy of Jonathan Roxmouth’s latest CD will be included.

Please leave your details in the comment section and the winner of the two preview Media tickets and a signed copy of “From The Footlights” will be announced on Wednesday morning.

Tickets are on sale at Computicket for performances from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.

From The Footlights, I wish you enough!
