31 reasons to fall in love with @Verushka143

1-Fullscreen capture 20160906 23310 PMWomen are made of Sugar and Spice and all things nice or so they tell us in the nursery rhymes we learn as toddlers. But it is true us women are rather complex with so many different sides to us.

1) I sing in the shower and let us just say I could audition for Idols and not be laughed at. Favourite shower song is from Pitch Perfect “Titanium by David Guetta and Sia“. Reminds of how strong I am and that I am a warrior.

2) As much as I love Technology , there are certain things I prefer the old fashioned way. Books for me need to be real and not ebooks. The feel of turning crisp clean pages, the smell of new pages and the sound of pages flipping send my soul to a happy place. I always carry a book on me.Literally I can spend hours in a book shop and lose track of time. Want to impress me ? Give me a copy of your favourite book !

3) A hopeless romantic who still believes in love even though my heart looks like a patchwork quilt.

4) I love making lists. Most people have a #BucketList of places they want to travel but I have several lists which include :

a) Books to read
b) Places to eat at around the world
c) Photos to capture
d) Experiences around the world

Spice5) I love watching Bollywood movies and I get lost in the magic of romance. I do not speak the language but over the years I have picked up the language by watching movies. My mum and I have days out where we go to get our Bollywood fix.

7) My parents live in the same house for the last forty years and we have the same phone number. Crazy especially as in this day and age people are constantly on the go.

8) My first teaching job was in the ‘lil town of Ixopo in KZN. I taught and lived at a boarding school. Alan Paton was a  Headmaster at this school and this was where he wrote Cry The Beloved country.

9) Vanilla is my most favourite spice. So be it perfume, tea or coffee there is always an underlying flavour of Vanilla.

10) Going down stairs, are a nightmare for me especially if there are more than 5 steps and they are narrow. I have a phobia of falling down the stairs though once I did fall up on a flight of stairs.

11) I have a real job besides my blog. Having studied an Education degree ,I have taught in schools and in London. Currently well for the last 5 years I have been lecturing at a local TVET College. I start work at 12 midday and finish at 8pm.

12) My most favourite chocolate in the world is Lindt. More specifically the Red Lindor Balls.

13) Mildly addicted to all things British. After living in London for almost a decade I know a cup of tea is always a good idea, a fry up breakfast is the best hangover cure and YES I still watch BBC soapies.

14) Rose Gold is my favourite metal and has been for over ten years. Fell in love with this metal after I discovered I love the colour pink. Long story cut short but hard to believe that once upon a time I hated the colour pink.

15) I have a medical condition called Keloids. This means my scar tissue over heals and leave excess skin and tissue in the form of lumps on my body. I have gotten keloids from my baby injections on my arm and on my eyes from having my ears pierced with a surgical gun.

16) I have 3 tattoos and still plan on getting more.

17) I do not feel dressed unless I have a watch on. I have on some occasions worn a dead watch as the battery had died and I felt bare with it on my wrist.

18) I have been bitten by the Travel Bug and all I want to do is travel. Through my blog I have been fortunate enough to get some opportunities.

19) I take daily Chronic medication for High Blood Pressure.

20) I love cooking for my loved ones. I see myself as the Indian Nigella.

21) When ever I watch any sporting matches and hear the South African National Anthem I get goosebumps and get all teary.

22) The name of my blog is inspired by a movie called Mistress of the Spices.

23) Mad about animal print currently on my lust list is an animal print sari.

24) I started my Twitter account before I started blogging.

25) I love statement jewellery. My sense of fashion includes combining my Eastern looks with Western statement jewellery.

26) Once upon a time I had my nose pierced but removed it after 3 years.

27) After watching the Stephen King movie “IT “ as a child I am rather afraid of clowns.

28) I love taking pictures of my world and myself. I used to be very self conscious about the way I look but not anymore. Love me for all my flaws or leave me be.

29) I used to not be an animal person but that all changed when I got my first puppy four years ago and now I own 2 dogs Chai and Zara.

30) As a plus size girl I am proud to be a Brand Ambassador for Curvy Girls Chronicles which is a Body Positivity Campaign in America with ambassadors around the world.

31) Proudly South African with a deep rooted Indian cultural identity.

Don’t look, just walk! – Miss @Jodenecoza :) #JoburgCityFest @JoburgCity

Hello darling friends,

Oh wow! Yesterday kicked off the @JoburgCity #joburgcityfest and I was privilege to attend two very funky events with vibe…and a touch of class, laughter and beautiful people. I love everyone crawling out of the suburbs and embracing the inner city of Jozi.

Late morning, @SirNoid and his kids, Douglas and Jenna and I attended “Market On Main”. I have been wanting to go there for ages, so this was a great excuse. @SirNoid is not a lover of markets but I think even he saw this one was a winner as he mentioned going back sometime. I hope SOON!

You won’t believe the amazing selection of superb food and drink! I settled on a raspberry and pineapple crusher and a trio of tiny prego rolls: one steak, one chicken and one mushroom. It was delicious! Dessert was a honeycomb cheese cake. Served in tiny portions but delicious. Quality ingredients makes for a taste sensation.

The Market is very busy, so I suggest if you see something you like buy it immediately! We also got to see this seasons MasterChef competitors walking around. Really an awesome market – open every Sunday!

Late afternoon I met up with @Jodenecoza and some of the #newmedia #dreamteam (friends) @ChevePeters @SelloCR @ohgodknows & @dliebo at the landmark establishment of Randlords.

We were on the very top deck from where you can see forever. The Nelson Mandela bridge, the trains that immediately reminded me of #StarlightExpressSA (last week at @Joburgtheatre! Emotional…) and knowing my fear of heights, it took Chevè to get me to go up and Sello to get me down!

The sunset was amazing!

@dliebo was very special in making sure @jodenecosa and I always had something to drink. It was incredibly awesome to attend a function as a social media guest. I am in awe that I have finally found my nugget of gold.

The #JoburgCityFest will be running the entire week! Watch the press for random updates or visit JoburgCity for daily events.

I have hit my sweet spot. Only took 40 years!

I wish you enough,

Lighting up the Stars of Jo’burg!

Hello my friends,

It is no secret that I have made a very real and personal connection with the masterpiece that is #StarlightExpressSA, its cast and #newmedia! It therefore gives me the greatest of pleasure to invite you to participate in a competition to spend Wednesday evening, 21 August 2013 enjoying this MEGA show by answering one simple question.

1. The winner will receive two tickets to #StarlightExpressSA at @Joburgtheatre.

2. Tickets need to by collected on Wednesday, 21 August 2013 between 7pm and 7h30pm from the Box Office.

3. The winner has to answer the question correctly. All correct answers will go into a hat, winner drawn… and it may just be you! The winner will be announced on Tuesday, 20 August 2013 at 6pm.

4. Only answers posted on my blog will count. No Twitter, Face Book, You Tube, Instagram, Smoke Signal or even BBM answers will be in the running. STRICTLY blog entries only! 🙂

Simple right?

The question is:

Who is the official sponsor of #StarlightExpressSA, that made it possible for @Joburgtheatre to bring this Andrew Lloyd Webber spectacular to our stage?

I wish you enough,

Wenchy

I attended a focus group on what has always been known to me as “my school card”. When I got mine it was probably a decade ago because yes, my kids are that old. All the moms at the school my kids attended all naturally made whatever school our kids attended the beneficiary. That said, this is where my donations go:

Times they are a changing! What the evening was about, was making consumers aware that “my school card” had evolved and if you check out their easy to navigate web site you will be amazed!

It is no longer just a card for people with school going children wanting to raise extra money for their school.  It is now a really funky fund raising initiative for literally anyone! You don’t need not conceive a thing and donate money to your favourite charity! You can now choose if you would like your donations to go to “My School” “My Village” or “My Planet” or, you can split your donation between three different charities. A list of the different charities under each umbrella are available on their web site.

It was a very relaxed, informative evening held at Athol Place Boutique in Sandton next to a crackling fire,  a divine venue! The food was fabulous and the welcome drinks, gorgeous! The presenter knew her product, was approachable and just a really lovely atmosphere. Naturally we loved a bit of a gift bag to go home with.

I got to meet someone I have admired on Twitter for years. The one and only fantastic lady who started the “Twitter Blanket Drive” when she had just over 200 followers………… four years ago! I was in Twitter Celebrities heaven. I met @MelanieMinnaar !!!……. and she knew who I was! That was HUGE!

I drove home elated! 🙂 Amazing what a Tweet can do.

Follow  “My School” “My Village” or “My Planet” on Twitter and on FaceBook. I have invited my friends to join both pages.

Thank you for an awesome, informative evening!

…and then life whistled at me. @Lifeology #StarlightExpressSA

An old friend, Fi ( @figs_home ) wanted to introduce me to a friend of hers for years now. She often mentioned that we would really like each other. For some reason it just never happened….. until I replied to a tweet regarding the @Joburgtheatre and Jodene @Jodenecoza ) responded. We instantly clicked!

I have had two professional role models in my life Jyoti Moti who worked very closely with me at AForbes, a kick ass perfectionist successful consultant, and my x brother-in-law, Kevin Trudgeon who is one of the top Tax Lawyers in the country…. and here I literally clicked onto the third that would take me to a place where I knew for sure, THIS is what I wanted to be when I grow up.  Jodene Shaer of @LifeologySA .

Jodene invited to an event or two, @NocturnalWenchy was alive and well, tapped into her resources and for once I was allowed to be on my phone all I like! Small part of heaven. Even @SirNoid and @ZippyFairy helped tweet. Thank you. I appreciate the support endlessly!

I had been wanting to get more involved in Social Media. I wanted to analyse, manage accounts, review, visit events, wear glitter, write and dabble in photography, walk in soft lighting – so ….when @LifeologySA presented me with an opportunity to freelance, I grabbed it with both hands, holding a phone in one, a camera around my neck and a Galaxy pad in the other! (… and currently begging @SirNoid for his old one when he upgrades as I need more “hands”.)

Jodene & Wenchy

I am beyond grateful for the opportunity, and the beautiful people I have met, the twitter followers who keep on coming and share my excitement and the Face Book friends who are so supportive and always encouraging my growth as a person, especially my BFF, Wil, Charms and Vicky, I love you… and my Mammie and my two sisters, Mary-Ann and Rentia. Also, a huge thank you to the small business accounts I am assisting with Face Book and Twitter. You mean so much to me. THANK YOU!

HUGE thank you to @SirNoid who is getting use to me not being at home every single night and my greatest thanks goes to @Jodeansa and @ohgodknows for taking a chance on me. (Abba playing in your head yet….?)

The greatest experience in these few short months has been getting more involved with @Joburgtheatre and the amazing non replica production of #StarlightExpressSA.  I have followed the journey from the first reading, to watching the TV advert being filmed to rehearsals and technical rehearsals and having loved theatre before…. I am now safely in love with the red curtain, the glitter and the truth that music speaks to your soul.

In my personal experience you have to see #StarlightExpressSA as the MEGA musical ever to come to the South African stage because as a regular theatre lover, I have never seen anything like it. The performers are in top form – singing, dancing, performing – all on rollerskates, the music is Andrew Lloyd Webber, need I say more? The two performers that I really connected with is Weslee (Dustinsee my previous interview with him, https://twitter.com/WesleeLauder ) and Bongi (Poppa https://twitter.com/Bongi_Mthombeni ). That man has a velvet, unbelievable voice and has been my Mammie’s BBM picture since yesterday!

Starlight Express can be seen at the Jo’burg Theatre during the week at 8pm, Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm and on Sundays at 2pm and runs until 1 September 2013. Prices range from R100 to R380  – Children as well as adults will be left wanting more!  You can purchase tickets on their web site.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel…. (the music never stops!)

I wish you enough,

Wenchy
